Fluvial Processes Flashcards

1
Q

Valley - lowland
Interfluve - highland between rivers/valleys
Drainage basin / drainage divide (border of basin)
Order of streams is how many are coming together

Erosion through splash, sheet, rill, and gully erosion
Competence - particle size
Capacity - amount of matter

Alluvium - stream-deposited sediment
ephemeral streams - only during wet season
discharge = widthdepthvelocity

Sinuous, meandering, braided channels

consequent stream follows slope
subsequent follows terrain features/weakeness -

Valley widening/lateral erosion - alluvium at slow point bar, outerbanks are cut out with high velocity

Valley Lengthening - headward erosion, delta formation
