Fluoroscopies Flashcards
What are the guidelines for scheduling X-Rays
- x-ray studies of the lower spine and pelvis should be ordered before a barium enema or upper gastrointestinal study is done
- Abdominal studies using CT or Ultrasound should precede studies using barium
- Liver and bone scans performed by the Nuclear Medicine dept. May conflict with barium studies & should be done first
- barium enema and/or S &D & FT should always be ordered last when multiple medical imaging procedures are ordered together
What are the common types of contrast medium?
Barium sulphate, water, gastrograffin, telebrix & readicat
List the contrast x-ray a.k.a. fluoroscopies
Hint: there are 9

Intravenous pyelogram IVP
X-rays taken as contrast medium passes through kidneys, ureter’s and bladder
Voiding cystourethrogram VCU
X-rays are taken of the urethra and bladder as a patient is voiding
Retrograde pyelogram
Visualization of the urinary tract through ureteral catheterization
