Fluids, Dehydration Flashcards

1
Q

What is the Holliday-Seger method for calculating maintenance fluids?

A

Gives you the daily volume
100mL/kg for first 10kg
50mL/kg for next 10 kg

Q

How is fluid resuscitation calculated for burn patients? Over what time period is it given?

A

Use the Parkland formula:
Kids: 3mL/kg X %body surface burned + maintenance fludis
Adults: 4mL in above formula

Half given in first 8 hours and remainder in following 16 hours
