Q
HOW DO I FIND INFO ABOUT THE CORRECT RATES???
A
?
3
Q
What kinds of things determine the rate at which you give fluid?
A
Time pressure:
- is it a large volume that needs to be given rapidly for resus?
- is it part of daily requirements and thus can be split over a longer period e.g. 1000ml/8+ hours
Are there any additions to the fluid?
- dont give K+ containing fluids too fast as risk of OD
- dont give too much glucose in certain situations as can exacerbate underlying pathology e.g. cerebral injury in a patient with already slightly elevated glucose
4
Q
What is the most appropriate clinical indicator of response to fluid during the first 6hrs?
A
Blood pressure
but also other clinical signs e.g. mucous membranes; urine output if catheterised; patient report
