Fluids Flashcards
How does urine output affect blood pressure?
Because the kidneys are a filter, it filters blood to remove excess fluid and waste. If increased sodium and water is reabsorbed this increases the blood volume and due to the stretch of the heart muscles increases blood pressure.
How does fluid intake affect blood pressure?
Regular Fluid intake will maintain a healthy blood pressure, if dehydration occurs , a rapid drop in blood pressure will occur.
How is fluid movement regulated?
Osmosis, water moves through a semipermeable membrane from a high concentration to a low concentration.
What are some functions of water in the human body?
Regulates body temperature, protection of body organs and tissues and lubricants joints.
What factors affect body water content?
Climate, salt intake, hormone levels, level of exercise.
What is passive transport?
A type of membrane transport that does not require energy to move substances across cell membranes.
What is active transport?
The process of moving molecules across a cellular membrane through the use of cellular energy.
What is the difference between acid and bases
An acid is any hydrogen containing substance that is capable of donating a proton to another substance. While a base can only accept a hydrogen.
