Fluid Therapy Flashcards
Colloids
Contain large-molecular weight solutes that don’t freely cross vascular endothelium and stays in intravascular space
Supports expansion of blood and blood pressure
Synthetic & Blood Products
Hypertonic Solutions
Saline 3%, 5%, 7%
Administered in small volumes to patients with shock and blood loss
Water leaves the body cells
Maintenance Fluid Rate
Lg K9- 2ml/kg/HR
Small pt- 4ml/kg/HR
Anesthesia Fluid Rate
5-10ml/kg/HR
Shock Fluid Rate
K9- 90ml/kg
Fel- 50ml/kg
Usually given after a 10-20ml/kg bolus
Crystalloids
Contain water and small-molecular weight solutes that pass freely through vascular endothelium
Routinely used in most anesthetize do patients
*don’t use w/ low blood protein, low RBC mass, low pH
LRS, 0.9% NaCl, Plasmalyte R, Normosol R
