Anesthetic Equipment Flashcards
Oscillometre Blood Pressure
Measures rise/fall from the cuff bladder to detect changes from pulsing artery beneath cuff
Measures systolic, diastolic and MAP
ECG
Graphic representation of electrical activity of the heart as it travels through the conduction system/heart muscle
Differentiates normal/abnormal and dangerous/nondangerous rhythms
Esophageal Stethoscope
Permits auscultation of the heart from a distance
Pulse Oximetre
Estimates saturation of hemoglobin (SO2)
Expresses as a % of total binding sites
Determined oxygen saturation (SpO2)
Probe is sensitive to hemoglobin light absorption and blood pulsations (red/infrared)
Capnograph
Measures amount of CO2 in inhaled/exhaled air
Sensor is usually at junction of ET tube and breathing circuit
Measures infrared light absorption
Blood Gas Analysis
Assesses oxygenation and CO2 levels
Measures pH, dissolved O2, arterial CO2 (PaO2/PaCO2) and venous blood (PvO2/PvCO2)
Indicates oxygenation, ventilation, acid-base status
*via blood from an artery
Doppler
Measures systolic pressure
Sends ultrasound waves that reflect back from pulsing artery (whoosh sound)
