Fluid Power Week 5 Flashcards
What is a check valve?
Valve which allows flow in only 1 direction. Held by a spring (typically requires 5PSI to open)
What is a cylinder used for?
Linear Mechanical Energy/Straight Line Mechanical Energy
What is the primary purpose for all cylinder seals?
Allow the piston to pressurize.
What is the Primary seal used for?
Keeps the fluid from rushing out of the cylinder around the rod.
What is the wiper seal for?
Clean and lubricate the rod.
What is the end of the cylinder opposite of the rod?
Blind end.
What is the end called on the side of the rod?
Rod end.
What is the load called when the rod extends?
Thrust Load.
What damage can occur when the cylinder rod extends?
Rod buckle.
What damage can occur when the cylinder rod retracts?
Rod tension.
What are the 4 methods of cylinder mounting?
Cap Fixed Clevis
Head Trunnion
Cap Square Flange
Side Lugs
Which cylinder has 1 threaded rod and moves in 1 direction?
Single Acting
Which cylinder uses alternating pressure to move the piston both directions?
Double Acting
Which cylinder has 2 separate rods which move both directions.
Double acting double rod
What is a cushion valve?
Valve which slows the piston at the end of the stroke to eliminate shock.
