Fluid Power Week 3 Quiz Flashcards
What is a valve?
Mechanical device consisting of a body and a moving part which connects and disconnects passages within a body AKA A device which allows and disrupts flow in a system.
What 3 things do valves control?
System Pressure, Direction of Flow, and Rate of Flow.
What is a pressure switch?
A device which controls electrical components using pressure.
What is a pressure regulator?
Pressure control valve which limits downhill pressure by stopping or limiting flow, which stops pressure from building AKA A device which limits flow to stop downhill pressure.
What is a safety relief valve?
Normally non passing valve which allows flow once a certain pressure is achieved in order to prevent over pressurization.
What affects actuator speed?
Restriction with a needle valve or a needle valve with a bypass check, often called a flow control.
What do directional control valves control?
The direction of flow.
What unit is flow measured in (Pnuematics)
CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute)
Where should flow control valves be placed?
As close to the actuator (cylinder) as possible, while still being accessible.
To control speed, you must______
Control flow
What is the minimum number of positions in a DCV?
2
What is the minimum number of ways in a DCV?
2
Which DCVs require passing or non passing information?
2 and 3 way DCVs
Which DCVs do not require passing or non passing information?
4 way and above.
What are the 3 types of centers for 3 position DCVs?
Blocked Center, Pressure Center, and Exhaust Center
