- shock expressed at conditions at Scutari

A

clean up ordered:
- rubbish cleared
- walls whitewashed
- dead animals removed
(previously ppl hadn’t understood how sickness spread, incl. Flozza - miasma theory)

= morality rates in hospitals fell

Nightingale welcomed commission + worked hard to provide medicine & supplies e.g. hot water bottles + welcomed London chef to ensure patients fed well
