- reorganised kitchen
- improved food for patients
- cleaned wards & bedlinen
- arranged the school room & library
What reputation did she gain?
worked long hours & was known as the caring ‘lady with the lamp’

Who disagreed with Nightingale & her nurses’ presence?
Dr Menzies (senior medical officer) & Dr John Hall (in charge of army medical staff)
- disagreed & tried to get the nurses sent back to England BUT failed
in Oct 1854 Hall wrote a report saying things were improving
