Flow Phonation Flashcards
What is flow phonation?
A series of exercises designed to reduce laryngeal hyperfunction.
and thus, hoarseness, vocal fatigue, and pain.
Who is a good candidate for flow phonation?
MTD
Dysphonia or Aphonia
What is a focus of flow phonation?
Airflow Mangement
As discussed in class, what three things does flow phonation promote?
Relaxation of the laryngeal musculature
Rebalance of laryngeal resistance and airflow
An improved voice quality
How many methods are there?
Three
What are the three activities?
Cup Bubble Blowing
Gargling
Stretch and Flow
What is the process that each activity progresses through?
Voiceless airflow
Voiced airlfow
Manipulation of the voice (gliding up and down pitches)
Removal of the feedback
What is the trick behind the gargling?
When you go to gargle you have to tilt your head back. Many people who have MTD or other tension won’t be able to engage in that extra tension if the front of their neck is already stretched. This promotes good airflow with a good laryngeal position.
