Flow Control Valve Flashcards
What do flow control valves do?
Regulate speed of hydraulic cylinders and motors by controlling the flow rate of fluid
What are control valves classified as?
Flow control is dependant on load
Flow regulating where flow is independent of load
Restrictor control valve is unaffected by?
Fluid viscosity
Orifice is affected by what?
Fluid viscosity
What are needle valves designed to do?
Give fine control of flow in a hydraulic circuit , can be varied
What can an orifice be used for ?
Flow control device, the smaller the orifice area, the smaller will be the flow rate and vice versa
What is a uniform flow rate?
Flow rate is constant within an hydraulic circuit, diversion must take place to prevent a buildup of pressure
What must a uniform flow rate have ?
A relief valve to divert flow back to the tank
What are the 4 methods of controlling flow rates?
Meter in-controls speed of ram extension and retraction
Bleed off- controls speed of ram extension and retraction
Supply- controls speed of ram extension
Return- controls the speed of ram retraction making the lowering of a load more governable. Prevent free fall of a load
What does a shut off valve do?
Is a valve that opens by lifting a round or rectangular gate/wedge out of the path of the fluid
What are gate valves designed to do?
Fully open or closed, when fully open the typical gate valve has no obstruction in the flow path, resulting in low friction loses
