Contamination Indicators Flashcards
Why is it important to have contamination indicators?
Confirm the cleanliness standard of the oil so preventing damage to components
What does cleanliness of hydraulic fluid ensure?
Maximum efficiency of servicing time and servicing costs
What are the 3 methods of measuring the effectiveness of a filter?
Mechanical (visible piston movement)
Pressure differential (optical indicators)
Electrical and or electronic
How do piston indicators work?
Rise in pressure due to a blocked filter overcomes the cracking pressure of the NRV activating the Visual alarm
This causes the flow of unfiltered fluid
How does the pressure differential indicator work?
Moves in response to differential pressure
How does an electrical/electronic indicator work?
Measures pressure differential, when pressure is too high due to a blockage the filter switch is made shut to give a visual warning
