Gentrification = Some groups are being forced out
Bangladeshi community cannot afford property + rent prices = affluent young professionals moving in

Local resident: “It was Bangladeshis that made BL famous but soon it won’t be BL anymore if they keep moving out”
Some argue art and culture are being ‘flattened’ as the new migrants are only bringing money with them = no art and culture

Population Policy in Thailand = reduce the population of the country
A non-governmental organisation (NGO) = Population and Community Development Association (PDA) set up

What does PDA offer (4+)
Recruited + trained residents of neighbourhoods to provide family planning information and supervised the distribution of contraceptives
Free contraception given out at restaurants and bars, on buses
Offered free vasectomies on the King’s birthday, and sterilisation became the most widely used form of contraceptives

Demographic = Use of birth control reduced birth rate and population size
Reduced pop. growth rate from 3% in the year 1974 to 0.6% today
Cultural change = more men now take responsibility for / use contraception

Food = restaurants established by different migrants
Area has a well-known bagel shop (Jewish culture) and is also known for curries (Bangladeshi culture)
