When is a Flight Plan mandatory?
All international flights All flights for which alerting action is required All flights conducted wholly or partly In controlled or advisory airspace, except: a local flight, a flight crossing an airway at right angles, a VFR flight taking off in CTR or ATZ class C to fly to an uncontrolled airfield.
If a flight plan is supposed to be opened on a specific day, how long does a pilot have to activate a flight plan before it is cancelled?
1 hour of the stipulated departure time
Is a pilot allowed to deviate from his course without requesting permission from ATC if the pilot has filed a flight plan?
Yes! It has to be an emergency or something out of his control like an engine failure but ATC must be notified ASAP
If a pilot is landing at a controlled airspace, will the flight plan be closed automatically?
Yes! If a pilot lands at an uncontrolled field and he requested search and rescue in the Flight Plan, he needs to call ATC and close it manually.
