What are the 5 objectives of Air Traffic Services?
> to prevent collisions between aircraft
to prevent collisions between aircraft on the maneuvering area and obstructions
to expedite and maintain an orderly flow of traffic
provide advice and information to aircraft
notify appropriate organizations for search & rescue
What is Area Control Service?
Controls VFR & IFR flights in CTA’s, UTAs, airways, RNAV routes and all managed upper airspace.
Issues instructions like flight levels, headings, speeds etc.
Approach Control Service
Controls all flights in the TMA.
Aerodrome Control Service
Controls all traffic in CTRs and ATZs Class C in VMC
Flight information service
Provides pilots with useful information.
Information is provided in controlled and uncontrolled as long as two way radio is maintained.
Aerodrome Flight Information Service
Otherwise known as ‘AFIS’.
In class G ATZ, only info is given to pilots.
Cannot give instructions.
Eg. Margate
Alerting Service
Provided in all airspace.
ATSU can organize SAR
