Flight Plan and Route Planning Flashcards

1
Q

When must a pilot file an IFR flight plan?

A

Prior to departure or entering controlled airspace a pilot must file flight plan and receive clearance when wx is below VFR minimums. Should be filed at least 30 mins prior to departure to preclude a delay in receiving clearance from ATC

Q

What are the alternate airport requirements? (91.169c)

A

1-2-3 rule
Alternate required if destination weather is less than 2,000/3 for one hour before and after planned ETA. The alternate wx must be above the mins for published approaches or 600/2 for precision or 800/2 for non-precision. If no IAP, then wx must for descent from MEA, approach and landing under basic VFR.

16
Q

What are the four groups of NOTAMs?

A

D - Info that requires wide dissemination
FDC - Regulatory in nature, such as changes in IFR charts, IAPs and airspace usage
POINTER - issued FSS to point out other NOTAMs, such as an FDC NOTAM. Helps to cross reference info that may not be found under airport NOTAM
MILITARY - pertain to military NAVAIDS/Airports that are part of the NAS

17
Q

All NOTAMS have keywords found in the first part of the text. Name some examples.

A

RWY, TWY, APRON, AD, OBST, NAV, COM, SVC, AIRSPACE

18
Q

Where can NOTAM info be obtained?

Three part answer.

A

AFSS/FSS
DUATS vendor
NTAP printed NOTAMS

19
Q

Are GPS NOTAMS included as part of the standard briefing?

A

No. The pilot must request them.
