Flight Controls Flashcards
(756) Recall what will happen if you trim the stabilizer using the electric
pitch trim switches on the control wheel during single or multiple autopilot operation.
If a single autopilot is engaged, electric (control wheel) trimming causes the autopilot to disengage
If multiple autopilots are engaged, the electric (control wheel) trim switches are inhibited.
(756) Recall what will happen if you trim the stabilizer using the alternate pitch trim switches on the pedestal while an autopilot is engaged.
Alternate trimming DOES NOT cause autopilot disengagement.
The UNSCHED STAB TRIM light will illuminate.
(777, 400, 756, NG) Explain how the flap load relief system operates.
(B757s)
If flaps 30 is selected and an overspeed occurs, the flaps will
retract to 25.
The flaps will return to the flap lever selected position (30) once
the speed decreases below the flap placard limit speed.
(B767ERs) –
If flaps 25 OR 30 is selected and an overspeed occurs, the flaps
will retract to 20.
The flaps will return to the flap lever selected position (25 or 30)
once the speed decreases below flap placard limit speed
(NG, 756, 400, 88) Recall the spoilers assist the ailerons in roll control in which configurations.
All configurations
(756, 400) Recall the maximum flap setting directed by the QRH when
using the alternate flap and slat extension system.
Flaps 20
(756) Describe the function of the ALTN FLAPS LE or TE switch.
On the 757, selecting ALTN disables the normal control
(hydraulic pressure is removed from BOTH systems), and enables the selected alternate drive unit to operate.
On the 767, selecting ALTN disables the normal control
(hydraulic pressure is removed from the SELECTED system only), and enables the selected alternate drive unit to operate.
On the 767, the flap lever must be moved to hydraulically operate the system that still has hydraulics.
Note: Example: During a 767 TE flap disagreement, the QRH will direct the pilot to select the TE alternate flap switch. The trailing edge flaps will be controlled electrically with the ALTN FLAPS selector, but the
leading edges slats must still be controlled hydraulically using the flap lever.
(756) Recall when leading edge slat asymmetry protection is provided on the 757.
At all times
(756) Recall what protection is provided during normal flap / slat operation.
LE and TE Asymmetry protection
LE and TE Disagreement protection
Flap Load Relief protection
(756) Recall what occurs upon detection of a flap / slat asymmetry or
disagreement.
757
Hydraulic power is automatically shut off to both the flaps and
slats.
A LEADING EDGE or TRAILING EDGE light illuminates.
767
Hydraulic power is automatically shut off only to the respective flaps or slats system.
A LEADING EDGE or TRAILING EDGE light illuminates.
Note: The associated EICAS message can be used to determine the
fault in the system.(Asymmetry or Disagreement)
(756) Understand when the outboard ailerons operate on the 767.
At low speeds
(756) Recall the operation of the control column nudger on the 767
Warning of an impending stall is provided by the left and right stick shakers, which independently vibrate the left and right control columns. If the angle of attack continues to increase, and the flaps are in the retracted position, a control column nudger moves the control column forward. Both systems are energized
in flight and deactivated on the ground through air/ground logic.
(756) Describe the operation of the rudder ratio system.
Uses left hydraulic system pressure to reduce rudder deflection
(based on airspeed).
The control commands from the rudder pedals and trim control are modified by a rudder ratio changer. As airspeed increases
the ratio changer desensitizes these inputs from the pilot to
reduce the rudder deflection. The ratio changer receives air data
computer airspeed inputs and provides control commands to an
actuator powered by the left hydraulic system. The actuator then dampens the pilots’ inputs to the rudder.
(756) Explain the meaning of a STAB TRIM light.
The electric or alternate stabilizer trim rate is one-half the normal rate.
(756) Explain the meaning of a SPOILERS light.
One or more spoiler pairs are inoperative or not in the signaled position.
(756) Explain the meaning of an AUTO SPDBRK light.
A fault is detected in the auto speedbrake system.
