Q

Child

A

Generally, the age of majority in BC is 19, however in certain circumstances such as the child goes to post secondary, they could still be considered a child. However, it’s not a straightforward answer because there are different factors that come into play (e.g., scholarships or whether or not the child is working) so I would recommend talking to the counsellor about your specific circumstance

Q

Guardian

A

A parent will automatically be considered a guardian to a child, even if a parent has never lived with their child, they can still be considered guardians. Also just because you and your partner separate and both have taken care of the child, both parents will remain guardians.
