Fixed appliances in ortho - clinical management Flashcards

1
Q

What are the 6 keys to normal occlusion?

A
  • Molar relationship class I (Mesio-buccal cusp of upper molars sits in buccal groove of lower molar)
  • Crown angulation - upper roots tip distally
  • Crown inclination (torque)
  • No rotations (rotated molars can use more space, incisors less space)
  • Tight contacts - no spacing or crowding
  • Flat curve of spee (level occlusal plane)

Q

What does the straight wire appliance have?

A

Built in tip values = 11 degrees (upper canine), upper incisor = 5 degrees
Built in torque values
Built in in-out valves (different bracket thickness)
For each individual tooth

Q

In which directions does levelling and alignment occur?

A

To correct rotations:
Vertically = levelling
Bucco-lingually = alignment
Mesio-distally = alignment - need initial canine retraction for bucco-lingual alignment
