five pillars of faith shahadah Flashcards
What is the shahadah
The first pillar of faith; it is a statement of faith:’ There is no God but God and Muhammad is the prophet of God’; it is known as the Kalimah prayer. [Qur’an 3:18 also states :’ There is no deity except Him the exalted in Might , the wise.]
When is the Shahadah recited?
Throughout the day; it is announced in the adhan [call to prayer]; it is recited in each of the five times of prayer; it is the first words whispered into a new born baby’s ear, and the last words spoken into the ears of the dying; soldiers have it on their lips in battle.
Why is the Shahadah important?
It states the central belief of Muslims in one true God who is one; it shows Muslims reject polytheism (many Gods) or atheism (no god); it denies the Christian’s belief in the trinity (God as Father, Son and Holy spirit); reciting it is the means to conversion to Islam.
