A

The most important festival in Islam
Sometimes called the greater Eid
Marks the end of annual Hajj

How is it celebrated

A

Preparations: gifts bought, new clothes made, food prepared, arrangements made for the sacrifice of an animal.
It is a public holiday in some countries: Indonesia, Turkey, Jordan
In Britain some Muslim organisations or businesses may close during Eid al Adha
Prayers will be said in the mosque and an Eid prayer will be heard
Friends and relatives will be visited, wearing new clothes
Traditionally, each Muslim family will buy and sacrifice an animal. In Britain, Muslims may ask a butcher to slaughter a sheep for them, and them share in a communal meal
It is a sacred duty to give some of the meat from the animal to the poor
