Five classes of immunoglobulins Flashcards
1
Q
How is IgG distributed?
What is its function?
A
Most abundant - monomer form
- opsonises/neutralises viruses and bacteria
- passive immunity - crosses the placenta
2
Q
How is IgA distributed?
What is its funciton?
A
dimeric form in muscus -in mucus secretions e.g tears, mucus, saliva & breast milk
monomeric in blood
- passive immunity - breast milk
-
3
Q
How id IgM distributed?
What is its function?
A
Ist released after initial exposure, expressed on NAIVE B cells
- pentamer
- activates complement
- targets extracellular bacteri
-
4
Q
How is IgE distributed?
What is its function
A
- monomer, present in blood at low conc
- causes inflammation
- immunity to parasites
- allergic reaction
5
Q
How is IgD distributed?
What is its funciton?
A
- monomer, expressed on NAIVE B cells
- specific funciton is unknown
