How well the heart copes with aerobic exercise and how quickly it recovers afterwards.
How can you maintain a healthy blood pressure?
Regular aerobic exercise
Healthy diet
What increases blood pressure?
- High stress levels
- Smoking
- Excess Alcohol
- Excess Weight
- Eating high levels of salt
- Eating high levels of saturated fat
What two ways does smoking affect blood pressure?
Carbon monoxide - Reduces ability of red blood cells to carry oxygen. Heart has to beat faster to make up for low oxygen carrying capacity
Nicotine - Causes strain to the heart. Makes it beat faster.
How does high levels of saturated fats affect blood pressure?
Lead to a build up of cholesterol in arteries which restricts blood flow.
What do we need carbohydrates for?
Energy
What do we need proteins for?
Growth and repair of tissue
What are carbohydrates made up of?
Simple sugars like Glucose.
What are fats made up of?
Fatty acids and Glycerol.
What is the difference between essential and non-essential amino acids?
Essential amino acids - Body can’t make them. Must be taken in by eating food.
Non - essential amino acids - Can be made in the body.
