What do Stimulants do?
Increases amount of Transmitter Substance released in synapses in nervous system. Increases the level of nervous activity taking place in the brain. Increases feelings of energy, alertness etc.
What do Depressants do?
Bind with receptor molecules in membrane of the next neurone, blocking the transmission of impulses. Reduces brain activity, slowing reactions.
What do Painkillers do?
Reduce pain felt by blocking Nerve Impulses.
What do Performance Enhancers do?
Increase muscle development.
What do Hallucinogens do?
Distort perception, sensation and emotion.
What is Cirrhosis and how does Alcohol cause it?
Cirrhosis is liver damage due to the live having to work to remove the toxic alcohol from the body. Toxic products build up in the liver when enzymes break down alcohol.
How does a person develop a smoker’s cough?
Chemicals in Tobacco damage Cillia that line the airways. This means they can’t remove mucus, tar and dirt from the lungs.
