Define Muscular strength
The maximal force that can be generated by a muscle or muscle group in one maximal effort.
Define Aerobic Capacity
The capacity of the respiratory and cardiovascular system to supply oxygen to the body
Define Muscular endurance
The ability of the muscle or muscle group to perform repeated contractions for an extended period of time
Define Anaerobic capacity
the capacity of the anaerobic system to provide energy for muscular contractions
Define Body Composition
refers to the make up of lean (muscle, bones, organs) and fat (both essential and non-essential) tissue in the body
Define Flexibility
The capacity of a joint to move through its full range of motion and reflect the ability of the muscles and connective tissue to stretch
Define muscular power
The ability to exert ‘maximal’ contraction in one explosive act. The combination of strength and speed. Aims to produce as fast and as powerful an action as possible.
Define Reaction Time
The time taken from the presentation of a stimulus to the onset of a response. Reflects the ability to process information via the nervous system
Define Speed
the ability of the body or body part to move from one point to another in the shortest possible time
Define Co-Ordination
The ability to use the body’s sense to execute motor skills smoothly and accurately. Involves the nervous system and the skeletal system working together
Define Agility
a rapid, whole body movement with change in velocity or direction in response to a stimulus. A composite of power, speed, flexibility, balance, and coordination
Define Balance
maintaining equilibrium while stationary or moving. Specific to the task performed
