PA for 0-5 years
for health development in infants (birth to 1 year) physical activity- particularly supervised floor based play in safe environment- should be encouraged from birth.
Toddlers (1-3 years) and preschoolers (3-5 years) should be physically active everyday for at least 3 hours, spread throughout the day.
PA for children 5-12 years
for health benefits children should accumulate at least 60 mins of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity everyday.
children’s PA should include a variety of aerobic activities, including some vigorous intensity activity.
-on at least days per week, children should participate in activities which strengthen muscle and bone.
- to achieve additional health benefits, children should engage in more activity- up to several hours per day.
PA for young people (13-17 years)
- should accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous PA everyday.
- should include a variety of aerobic activities, including some vigorous activities.
- at least 3 days per week young people should engage in activities which strengthen muscle and bone.
- to achieve additional health benefits, young people should engage in more activity, up to several hours per day.
PA for Adults
- doing any PA is better than doing none.
- if you currently don’t participate in any PA, start by doing some, and gradually build up to the recommended amount.
- be active on most, preferably all days.
- Accumulate 150-300 minutes of moderate intensity activity, or 75-150 minutes of Vigorous activity. or an equivalent of combination of both moderate and vigorous activity, each week.
- do muscle strengthening activities at least 2 days per week.
SB for young children (0-5 years)
- children younger than 2 should not spend anytime watching TV or using other electronic media devices.
- for children 2-5 , sitting and watching TV and other electronic media devices should be limited to less than 1 hour per day.
- all children should not be sedentarilly restrained , or kept inactive, for more than 1 hour at a time, with the exception of sleeping.
SB for children (5-12 years) and young adults (13-17 years)
- limit use of electronic media for entertainment, to no more than 2 hours per day- lower levels associated with reduced health risks.
- break up long periods of sitting as much as possible
SB for adults
minimize the amount of time spent in prolonged sitting.
