IMPORTANT PRACTICAL TEST!
What is the unconscious casualty procedure?
DRAB CRS!
Danger: check around for immediate danger, glass, electricity wires etc.
Response: check if they’re responsive
- VOICE - approach from feet and say “can you hear me Sam? I’m here to help.” Shake his feet. Shake his shoulders.
- PAIN - “I’m going to put my nail in your nail bed”
Airway: tilt head and chin back
Breathing: Lick hand see if breathing, then look down body to see rise and fall of breath for 10 seconds (should count around 3 breaths).
Check 1 (Quick Check): Slide hands over all body starting from head, behind neck, across chest and behind back, down arms, belly, legs feet. CHECK HANDS FOR BLOOD REGULARLY.
Check 2: Checking for lumps and bumps, indentations slowly do the same as above. Check eyes.
Recovery position: Straighten legs, put arm closest to you at a right angle to the body with palm facing up, press their other hand on their cheek and hold it there, lift up knee and pull over, put this knee at right angle, open airways.
Spine: Check along spine for injury

Adult: Tilt head up, 5 breaths, Locked arms fully weight down 2 hands between nipples, 30 pulses, 2 breaths, 30 pulses 2 breaths.
Child: Tilt head up, 5 breaths, Locked arms fully weight down one hand between nipples, 30 pulses, 2 breaths, 30 pulses 2 breaths.
Baby: Neutral head 5 breaths, Locked arms fully weight down two fingers between nipples, 30 pulses, 2 breaths, 30 pulses 2 breaths.
IMPORTANT PRACTICAL TEST!
Direct pressure bandage dressing
- Sit them down
- Remove clothing
- Sterile water clean
- Put pad over wound
- Unravel and wrap round keeping it tight
- Get them to hold shoulder (elevate)

Indirect pressure bandage dressing
- Two rolls either side of wound | ^ |
- Get person to hold those two
- Wrap round either side of wound keeping tight and doing figure of 8.
- Get them to hold shoulder (elevate)
- What is anaphylaxis?

- A severe allergic reaction which produces large amounts of antihistamine.
- Animals, food, medicine, latex, stings etc.
- Wheezing/ coughing, discolouration etc.
What do you do when someone is choking?
- Ask – are you choking!?
- Palm of hand whack 5 times, check if its come out each time.
- Abdominal thrust – make fist with thumb on top and hug then in and up 5 times.
What are some types of infection (give examples of each)?
Viral (e.g HIV, chicken pox, cold/ flu).
Bacterial (e.g chylamdia, tetanus, TB)
Fungal (e.g ringworm, thrush, athletes foot).
Parasitic (e.g scabies, lice, malaria).

Hole wounds
- Clean wound
- Establish where point it
- Hold down that with force
- Feed bandages in.
If blood is coming from arteries…
If blood is coming from veins…
If blood is coming from capillaries…
Bright red, oxygenated spurting out.
Dark red, slower coming out.
Slow coming out, will take 10 minutes to clot
