CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
The lifesaving technique used in emergencies when someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped.
AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
A portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm.
Anaphylaxis
A severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
Rescue breathing
Providing breaths to someone who is not breathing adequately or at all.
1: Ensure the area is safe and check if the person is responsive.
2: if unresponsive send someone to call 911 and get an AED if available
3: open the airway, tilt the head back and lift the chin
4: Check for breathing - look listen and feel for no more than 10 seconds
5: pinch the nose and seal the lips
6: give two rescue breaths, each over one second, enough to make the chest rise
