How often do you give breaths to compressions?
2 breaths to 30 compressions
If 2 breaths are unsuccessful then what do you do?
Reposition/ jaw thrust
what is an emetic?
makes you puke, taken when consumed poison or toxins
when are emetics NEVER given?
for gasoline poisoning
What is the MC emetic?
Ipecac
what is the mildest emetic?
Salt water
What is the safest substance to treat alkaline or acid ppoisoning?
H2O
What should you not vomit up if consumed?
Bleach or other cleaning chemicals
what is the universal antidote?
activated charcoal (adsorbent)
What is activated charcoal (the universal anidote) not used for?
- alcohol (ethonol, menthol)
- iodine, boric acid & alkalies
- lithium (metallic compounds)
- sulfer, DDT
What should you do if a person is conscious making a sound (coughing) and choking?
Do not help
What should you do if a person is conscious and not making a sound while choking?
perform the Heimlich (aka conscious abdominal thrusts)
If there is a unconscious infant choking what do you do?
back blows, finger sweep
If there is an unconscious adult choking what do you do?
abdominal thrusts (just above umbilicus)
What are the two types of shock?
- Anaphylactic = swollen tongue
- Hypovolemic = blood loss
What are early signs of shock?
restless or irritable, cool, clammy skin & rapid pulse
What are late signs of shock?
thready pulse, shallow rapid breathing, blue skin, dialated pupils
What is the death warning during shock?
decreased BP
What is seen with Carbon Dioxide CO2 poisioning?
not enough O2, cyanosis
What is seen with carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning?
hemoglobin binds to the carbon molecule, CHERRY RED lips or skin, cyanosis
What is MRSA?
skin lesion that doesn’t heal, can move to lungs and make them look like swiss cheese.
What is CA - MRSA?
Community associated MRSA
