how do you open an airway for adults, children and infants
for all you lift the fourhead and push the chin up at the same time.
what are the compressions for cpr
30 pushes : 2 breaths
how far do you compress the chest for each in cpr
adult : 2 in deep
child + infants: 1/3 to 1/2 the depth of the chest
what is the xiphoid process
small cartilaginous extenssion at the lower end of the breastbone. Part of your ribcage
what do you do for a concious choking victim
adult/child: preform abdominal thrusts by standing behind them, place arms around their waist, + give upward thrusts
infant: preform 5 back blows and chest blows by supporting the head and neck while there laying on you leg
what is the steps to stop arterial bleeding
- apply pressure
- elevate area
- apply pressure to artery
- use tourniquet if needed
what are the steps to stop venous and capillary bleeding
- apply pressure
- elevate
- use pressure dressing
what is hypovolemic shock
occurs when there is significant loss of blood/ fluid
what is cardiogenic shock
when heart rate is unable to pump enough blood
what is septic shock
life threatining result of a severe infection
- causes widespread inflammation and organ disfunction
what is anaphylactic shock
body overreacts to an allergic reaction which will lead to shock
how do you treat shock
the main goal is to restore blood flow and oxygen
- lie on back and elevate legs
what are some signs and symptoms of shock
sudden weakness, numbness, confusion, trouble walking, loss of coordination, dizzy
what care can you give someone with shock
call 911
provide reassurance
dont give them anything
what are some signs and symptoms of a heart attack
check pain, shortness of breath, nausea etc
