Fire & Smoke Flashcards
How many fire extinguishing bottles are available for fighting an APU fire?
One.
Each lavatory is equipped with…
One smoke detector and one smoke detection control unit.
What is the result if you press the APU FIRE pb?
Silences the aural fire warning arms the squib on the APU fire extinguisher closes the low-pressure fuel valve the APU bleed valve the X bleed valve shuts off the APU fuel pump and deactivates the APU generator.
What kind of smoke detection is installed in the avionic bay?
One smoke detector in the air extraction duct of the avionic ventilation system detects smoke in the avionics compartment.
Where are the sensing elements for the fire and overheat detection system located?
The three sensing elements for each engine are located in the pylon nacelle in the engine core and in the engine fan section.
How many halon fire extinguishing cylinders are there per engine?
Each engine has two fire extinguishers.
What happens if the system detects a APU fire on the ground?
If the system detects an APU fire while the aircraft is on the ground it shuts down the APU automatically and discharges the extinguishing agent.
Can the APU FIRE test be done using battery power only?
Yes.
Is a smoke detection or extinguishing system for the wastebins in the lavatory available?
Each lavatory wastebin has an automatic fire extinguishing system.
The aft cargo compartment smoke detection system consists of…
Four smoke detectors and a two channel smoke detection control unit.
Is an extinguishing system in the cargo compartments available?
Yes two fire bottles supply three nozzles (one in the FWD and two in AFT compartment). Bottle 1 is discharged in aprox. 60 s Bottle 2 discharges within aprox. 90 minutes.
When does the APU fire bottle discharge automatically?
The bottle discharges automatically if there is an APU fire when the aircraft is on the ground.
What is the result if you press the ENG FIRE pb?
Silences the aural fire warning arms the fire extinguisher squibs closes the low-pressure fuel valve the hydraulic fire shut off valve the engine bleed valve the pack flow control valve cuts off the FADEC power supply and deactivates the IDG.
How many smoke detectors are installed in the cargo compartments?
2 FWD 4 AFT.
Illumination of the GEN 1 LINE SMOKE light indicates…
Smoke has been detected in the avionic compartment ventilation duct.
ENG 1 (2) FIRE pb (FIRE panel)
Pressing it does what?
- Silences the aural fire warning
- Arms the fire extinguisher squibs
- Closes the hydraulic fire shut off valve
- Closes the low-pressure fuel valve
- Deactivates the IDG
- Closes the pack flow control valve
- Closes the engine bleed valve
- Cuts off the FADEC power supply
ENG 1 (2) FIRE LT (FIRE panel)
When does it come on?
This red light comes on, regardless of the ENG 1 (2) FIRE pb’s position, whenever the fire warning for the corresponding engine is activated.
AGENT 1 (2) pb (FIRE panel)
- SQUIB
- DISCH
A brief push on the button discharges the corresponding fire bottle.
SQUIB:
Lights up white when the ENG FIRE button is popped for its engine to help the flight crew identify the AGENT pb to be activated.
DISCH:
Lights up amber when its fire extinguisher bottle has lost pressure.
