What is the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005?
The RRFSO provides a framework for regulating fire safety in all non-domestic premises and common parts of multi-occupied domestic buildings
What is the ‘Responsible Person’ under the RRFSO?
You’re responsible for fire safety in business or other non-domestic premises if you’re:
an employer
the owner
the landlord
an occupier
anyone else with control of the premises, for example a facilities manager, building manager, managing agent or risk assessor
You’re known as the ‘responsible person’.
If there’s more than one responsible person, you have to work together to meet your responsibilities.
Who is the ‘responsible person’ responsible for on the premises?
Any person lawfully on the premises, or in the immediate vicinity of the premises and at risk from a fire on the premises.
What are the responsibilities of a responsible person under the RRFSO?
Undertake a fire risk assessment -Record for over 5 employees
In workplaces - tell staff about the risks
Take general fire precautions
Fire fighting and detection
Emergency Routes and Exits - i.e kept clear at all times
