Where is the fire protection control unit (FPCU) located?
Right side of the baggage compartment
What is the primary design function of the FPCU?
Monitor and sensor data in various systems
What does the FPCU monitor and report the health of?
The entire Fire Protection System (FPS)
Where are the FPCU outputs supplied to?
The Data Concentrator Units then to the CAS display system for caution/warning functions
What would cause a L or R Bleed Air Leak CAS message?
A overheat condition sent from the Pylon Overheat Detection System
What does Fire Zone 1 provide?
Detection & suppression
What does fire zone 2 provide?
Detection only
What will the APU do if a fire condition is sensed?
Automatically shut down
When would the APU not automatically shut down?
During the APU Fire Detection Test
If on the ground, how would the APU alert for a fire?
A fire warning horn
What monitors the bleed air distribution ducts, air turbine starter, and wing anti-ice ducts?
Overheat Detection System
What is the overheat detection sub system designed to protect the aircraft from?
Overheat conditions that arise from leaks or other failures in the hot bleed air system
What is a key design feature for the ODS?
The FPCU can detect an overheat event and report the event location to the aircraft maintenance computer
How many fire extinguishers are there for the engines?
Two
How are the fire extinguishers controlled?
Two fire handles, and an APU ARM/EMPTY switch
How do the handles indicate that there is a fire in the engine?
Illumination of the respective handle by the FPCU
What does pulling the fire handle do? What does rotation do?
Sends a shut down signal to the FADEC, closes the hydraulic shut off valve, closes the engine fuel shut off valve
Rotation causes the cartridge to detonate and release the fire extinguisher in bottle contacts
What is the APU fire extinguishing system powered by?
Left emergency DC bus
What happens if the left emergency DC bus is not powered and an APU fire is detected?
The APU fire extinguishing system cannot extinguish a fire
Where is the smoke detector located? When is it functional?
Aft baggage compartment, anytime the right emergency
DC bus is powered
How can smoke be removed from the baggage compartment?
A Baggage dump valve is in the baggage compartment, which will dump the baggage compartment air to the aft fuselage
What happens when the APU “FIRE” push button is pressed?
2 fire extinguisher bottle is armed
FPCU delivers a control signal to close the APU fuel isolation valve (fire valve)
FPCU delivers the APU shut down command that goes to the APU ECU to close the APU fuel shut off valve
When is the #2 fire bottle discharged? What color is the CAS message - in flight & on the ground?
When the APU arm/empty switch is pressed & indicates amber EMPTY
Flight - Cyan
Ground - Amber
