Fire Protection Flashcards
Overview
The fire detection system provides visual and aural warnings to alert the flight crew to an engine fire, APU fire, and smoke in the baggage compartment.
The fire extinguishing system has fire extinguishing bottles to suppress fire in the engines, APU, and baggage compartment.
What does the ENGINE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM do?
It monitors tempretures in each engine nacelle.
How many fire detection loops are there in each nacelle?
Two.
How many engine fire bottles are there?
Two, halon engine fire bottles.
Where are the engine fire bottles found?
In the tailcone.
When do the ENGINE FIRE buttons illuminate?
When the fire loop has sensed an excessively high temperature in an engine compartment.
BAGGAGE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM
The unpressurized tailcone baggage compartment is equipped with a smoke detection system and fire suppression system.
Visual and aural indications alert the crew that a fire may be present.
Where are the baggage smoke detectors found?
In the ceiling of the baggage compartment.
One forward and one aft.
What is the time frame of detection for the baggage smoke detectors?
Each detector is capable of detecting smoke from any location in the baggage compartment within 1 minute.
How many fire bottles are included in the baggage fire protection system?
Two fire bottles.
How is the halon supplied in the baggage fire protection system?
One bottle supplies an initial knockdown of halon.
The other supplies a low metered rate of halon for continued flight at cruise conditions, and a high metered rate of halon for descent and landing.
Does the baggage fire protection system share an extinguisher with the APU fire protection system?
Yes. It has two discharge ports. One for the baggage compartment and one for the APU.
Where is the shared fire extinguisher bottle found?
In the tailcone.
Where is the dedicated baggage fire bottle found?
In the nose compartment.
It has a low discharge squib for cruise flight and a high discharge squib for descent and landing.
When is the baggage fire button armed?
The button is continuously armed whenever the aircraft has electrical power.
