Reinforcement Theory
Definition:
4 types:
This theory suggests that behavior is a function of its consequences. Probably the best known motivational theory
Positive and negative reinforcement, extinction, punishment
Motivation-hygiene thoery
Breaks motivation into two parts: hygiene factors and motivation factors.
Hygiene-conditions external to the individual such as pay and work conditions
Motivation-internals such as desire for recognition, achievement, advancement
Goal setting theory
Relies on natural competitiveness of people.
Equity theory
This motivational process suggests employees evaluate the outcomes they receive for their inputs and compare them with the outcomes other receive for their inputs
Expectancy theory
Motivational theory based on the premise that people will act in a manner they believe will lead to an outcome they value.
