Fire Detection/Protection Flashcards
How many engine fire loops and what type?
• (6) total fire detection loops gaseous-type (helium gas)
How many loops in each engine nacelle and what zones do they monitor?
• (3) fire detection loops located in each engine nacelle and monitor the following zones: Leading Edge Zone (LEZ), Primary Engine Zone (PEZ), and Main Wheel Well zone (MWW)

• If the PEZ loop detects fire OR the LEZ loop detects FIRE, a FIRE indication will result.
“FAULT A” Indications:

• If the PEZ loop fails (fault indication given) AND the LEZ loop detects fire, a fire indication WILL also result. The panel will indicate a fault and a fire simultaneously.
“FAULT A” Indications:
If the LEZ loop fails (fault indication given) AND the PEZ loop detects fire… what will the panel indicate?
• If the LEZ loop fails (fault indication given) AND the PEZ loop detects fire, NO fire indication will result. The panel will indicate a FAULT only
“FAULT B” indication is associated with a…
“FAULT B” indication is associated with a MWW fail
An engine fire is indicated by the (5) fire warning lights and (1) Aural Warning:
- Respective engine’s :PULL FUEL/HYD OFF” T-handle light (red) on the FPP
- MASTER WARNING light (flashing red) on the glareshield
- CHECK FIRE DET warning light (flashing red) on the warning light panel
- Both ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET lights (flashing red) on the left and right sides of the glareshield
- Also, a fire “warning tone” would be heard
How many engine fire bottles, location, and distribution?
- (2) Fire extinguisher bottles (designated FWD and AFT) are installed in the left wing root
- Both shots to one engine or one shot to each engine
When the respective T-handle is pulled:
•When the respective T-handle is pulled: o Fuel valve is closed o Hydraulic valve is closed o FWD and AFT Fire bottles are Armed o Squib is Armed
Engine Fire Detection System Test To test Engine #1 •Press and hold the “Test Detection” to the LEFT (on FPP) •Aural Warnings o Engine Fire “Warning Tone” •Visual Warnings •Remember: The “3-1-3-Rule”
3 light indications: Overhead Panel (FPP)
#1 PULL FIRE/HYD OFF Handle
“FAULT A” (amber light)
“FAULT B” (amber light)
1 Light indication: Caution Warning Panel (CWP)
“CHECK FIRE DET”
3 light indications: Glareshield
“WARNING Press to Reset” (Captain Side)
“ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET” (Capt & F/O Side)
Aural Indication
Engine Fire “WARNING TONE”
APU Fire Detection
Powered by…
• Powered by the RIGHT essential 28vDC bus
APU Fire Detection
Describe the detection system.
• (1) fire detection loop gaseous-type (helium gas)
What happens if an APU fire is detected?
• If a fire is detected, the APU will automatically shut down and the fire extinguishing agent will be released after 7 seconds
