Fire Detection/Protection Flashcards
Which systems have fire detection and protection?
Which systems have fire detection and protection?
- Engines
- APU
- Cargo
- Lavatories
What is the power source for engine and APU fire detection
and protection?
What is the power source for engine and APU fire detection and protection? 1. Engine Detection DC ESS BUS 1 and 2 2. Engine Protection HOT BATT BUS 1/2 3. APU Detection DC ESS BUS 1 and 2 4. APU Protection DC ESS BUS 2
Describe the the Engine Fire Detection
Describe the the Engine Fire Detection
- DC ESS BUS 1 and 2
- 2 fire loops per engine on each side, 4 total8 (gaseous-type)
- Both loops must detect overheat to get a fire indication unless one loop is inop
Describe the Engine Fire Protection
Describe the Engine Fire Protection
1. HOT BATT BUS 1/2 powered
2. 2 fire bottles (1 shot per bottle)
3. Both shots to one engine or one shot to each engine
3. Fire Handle (FSOV, HYD SOV, BLD SOV, X-BLD)
4. Fire Handle and ITT Warnings will stay illuminated until no
indication of fire exists
Describe the APU Fire Detection System
Describe the APU Fire Detection System
1. DC ESS BUS 1 and 2 powered
2. 2 loops,
3.Both loops must detect overheat to get a fire indication unless one loop is inop
4. APU Fire EXT button illuminates when APU EMER STOP
button is pressed or 1 min after alarm if no action is taken
4. Red Light in APU FIRE EXT button extinguishes when fire is no longer detected
APU Fire Protection
APU Fire Protection
1. DC ESS BUS powered
2. 1 fire bottle
APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER button illuminates when APU EMER STOP button is pressed or one minute after.
alarm if no further action is taken
The red light in the APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER button extinguishes when fire is no longer detected
What is the sequence of events during an APU fire:
What is the sequence of events during an APU fire:
APU EMER STOP button RED light illuminates
Memory item completed - APU EMER STOP BUTTON…PUSH IN (WHITE light illuminates and RED light extinguishes)
APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER button illuminates
In the event the memory item is NOT completed, the APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER button will illuminate after 60 seconds of having an APU fire indication
Will the APU automatically shut down if a fire is detected?
Will the APU automatically shut down if a fire is detected?
Only on the ground
Describe the Cargo Smoke Detection System
Describe the Cargo Smoke Detection System
1. DC ESS BUS 2
2. FWD Cargo - (3) smoke detectors (2 must be in agreement,
Fan shuts off for 60sec, 45sec time for them to find a agreement.
3. AFT Cargo (2) smoke detectors (both must be in agreement)
4. After smoke is detected, recirculation fan automatically turns off
and the ventilation outflow valve closes
What happens if smoke is detected in the recirculation bay?
What happens if smoke is detected in the recirculation bay?
• Both recirc fans deactivate
• Cargo recirc fan deactivates
• Cargo Outflow Valve closes
Why do you think the system is designed to automatically
turn off the recirculation fan and the ventilation outflow valve
to the cargo compartment when smoke is detected?
Why do you think the system is designed to automatically
turn off the recirculation fan and the ventilation outflow valve
to the cargo compartment when smoke is detected?
1. Keeps halon foam from entering the cabin
2. Stops oxygen being provided to the compartment to continue
further combustion (fire ∆)
Describe the Cargo Compartment Protection
Describe the Cargo Compartment Protection
- 2 fire bottles 1 HRD Bottle 13 lbs Halon 1301, LRDBottle 22lbs 1301
- Able to extinguish fire in either compartment but not both
Cargo fire bottle deployment in-flight no smoke indication
Cargo fire bottle deployment in-flight no smoke indication
1. First push = high rate bottle arms
2. Second push = high rate fires, low rate arms, then fires after 60
secs
3. Third push = low rate fires immediately rather than after 60
secs
Cargo fire bottle deployment in-flight smoke indication
Cargo fire bottle deployment in-flight smoke indication
First push = high rate fires and then low rate arms and fires after
60 secs
Cargo fire bottle deployment on-ground smoke indication
Cargo fire bottle deployment on-ground smoke indication
- First push = high rate bottle fires, low rate arms
- Second push = low rate bottle fires
