What is dyeing?
A
- dipping yarn, fibre or fabric into a colour pigment to change the colour
- chemicals are used to fix the colour so that it doesn’t fade when washed

What is chemical dyeing?
A
- pigment dyes with salts added to fix them
- can be made up of water

- vegetable pigment dyes

A
- fibres dyed
- polymer is coloured
- fibres dyed and turned into yarns
- undid fabrics can be dyed

What is dip dyeing?
A
- part of the fabric is dipped into dye
- then can be dipped into different coloured dyes to mix the colours

What is resist dyeing?
A
- part of the fabric is made to resist dye when dipping

What is tie dyeing?
A
- wrapping or having the fabric tied
- then dipping it into many dyes to give different colours

What is batik?
A
- using wax to make the dye resist going there

A
- stitching parts to make the dye resist going there

A
- dye added to folded fabric and then steamed to set the dye

A
adding colour to make patterns on fabric

What is block printing?
A
- blocks are made into patters
- these are dipped into a dye
- then these blocks are pressed onto fabrics leaving the pattern, in many places

What is screen printing?
A
- a pattern is cut out maybe using laser cutter
- there is a screen on top of a wooden outlined board
- the pattern is placed under the screen (mesh)
- paint/dye is placed in the mesh and squeezed in using a squeegee
