FINALS - UNIT IV Flashcards
It is a form of a specific product (pesticide) that we use.
Formulation
What are the common pesticide formulations? Kindly enumerate.
- Dusts
- Granules
- Aerosols
- Wettable Powders
- Soluble Powders
- Emulsifiable concentrates
- Flowable Liquids
- Solutions & Water Soluble concentrates
- Encapsulated Pesticides
- Soluble Powders
- Poisonous Baits
Made up of finely ground mixture of active ingredients combined with clay, talc, or other powdered materials.
Dusts
Hard, dry particles made up of porous materials and active ingrident.
Granules
Sold in cans and contain one or more active ingredient under pressure.
Aerosols
Dry and powdery, and appear similar to dusts but contain additional wetting and dispersing agents.
Wettable Powders
are liquid formulations where the active ingredient is dissolved in oil, and an emulsifier is added so that the formulation may be mixed with water or oil for spraying.
Emulsifiable concentrates
are made with active ingredients that cannot be dissolved completely in water or oil, so the a.i. is ground up and suspended in liquid and other suspending agents.
Flowable Liquids
are liquids in their original state and are soluble in water and other solvents.
Solutions and water soluble concentrates
are a new kind of formulation where the active ingredient is held in a very small capsule.
Encapsulated Pesticides
are dry formulations similar to wettable powders but completely dissolves and form a genuine solution when mixed with water, whereas the WP does not.
Soluble Powders
these appear similar as the granules, but behave the same way as wettable powders.
Dry Flowables
food-like substances mixed with a pesticide designed to attract and be eaten by insects or other pestsand eventually poison them to death.
Poisonous Baits
Substances used to kill inects.
Insecticides
Two major groups of insecticides
- Systemic Insecticides
- Contact Insecticides
Insecticides that become incorporated and distributed systematically throughout the plant.
Systemic insecticides
Insecticides that are toxic to insects upon direct contact.
Contact insecticides
This describes how the pesticide kills or inactivates a pest.
Mode of Action
What neural enzyme do organophosphates inhibit?
acetylcholinesterase
They are esters of carbamic acid that are commonly used as insecticides.
Carbamate compounds
what insecticides are fat soluble?
Chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides
These are a class of neuro-active insecticides that are chemically similar to nicotine.
Neonicotinoids
What was the first commercial neonicotinoid in 1985?
What company first patented its use?
imidaclorpid
Bayer
imidaclorpids are effective against what type of insects?
Sucking Insects
Chewing Insects
Soil Insects
These are insecticides that use microorganisms or their products to attack and kill insect pests
Microbial Insecticides
