Fillers
Short phrase or words to fill the space when we are thinking of what to say next
“One of my favourite authors is —- J.K Rowling, who wrote the—–Harry Potter books.
==>(One of my favourite authors is, y’know, J.K Rowling, who wrote the y’know Harry Potter books)
She’s —- an inspiration to a lot of people, and I love how——- authentic she makes the books feel.”==>
She’s, like, an inspiration to a lot of people, and I love how _kinda authentic she makes the books feel.”
By using fillers we can plug those gaps and make the pauses shorter or even remove the “Hmmm , Mmmm”
Filler
“Y’know”
- Doesn’t mean anything : it Definitely doesn’t mean “You Know”
- Just a sound
- Used in the middle of a sentence
- Can be used multiple times
- Don’t say as “You know”
- Is an unstressed part of the sentence
The latest y’know avengers movie was a huge hit at the y’know box office
Example
I started studying y’know calligraphy when I was seven years old, but these days, y’know I’m a little too busy for it.
Kinda
Kind of
- Soften a negative adjective He’s kinda annoying
- If we have a verb that has afeeling (want, like, hate) soten a verb of emotion
- I kinda hate him (I don’t completely hate him but I hate him a little bit)
I kinda want it (It’s not my biggest goal in my life to have that thing but I’d like to have that - Filling space
Example
My room in university is kinda gross because there are 6 people living in it, and the other 5 are really kinda messy.

- To soften our disagreeing with the thing that supposed to be answered
- Unexpected answer
