Filemaker Pro 9 (95) Flashcards
This set entered ON 7-26-14. 5.25.14.6 1. CREATE A NEW TABLE called INVOICE FINDER. Then go to the FIELDS TAB and:
create a new field, call it START DATE, and make it a DATE TYPE.
- Click on the OPTIONS BUTTON, and in the FIELD OPTIONS dialog box, click on;
the STORAGE TAB and turn on the USE GLOBAL STORAGE checkbox.
- Why use a GLOBAL FIELD in card #2?
Since this field IS NOT HOLDING DATA about an ENTITY, BUT is used to CHANGE THE RECORDS THAT DISPLAY IN A PORTAL, you need TO USE A GLOBAL FIELD.
- Repeat SAME STEPS to create:
ANOTHER GLOBAL FIELD called END DATE.
- In the RELATIONSHIP GRAPH, grab the INVOICE FINDER T.O. (created in step 1) and change its name to:
Invoice Finder_INVOICE FINDER. This NEW T.O. will become the ANCHOR in the NEW TOG.
- Add a new OCCURRENCE of the invoices TABLE, call it Invoice Finder__INVOICES, and a NEW OCCURRENCE of the JOBS TABLE and call it Invoice Finder__JOBS. Why do you need the new JOBS T.O.?
Since your PORTAL will show invoices AND the JOB ASSOCIATED with each INVOICE, you need these tables in the GROUP as well.
- How do you RELATE these TWO TABLES?
Drag the Invoice Finder__INVOICES::Job ID field onto the Invoice Finder__JOBS::Job ID field to create the RELATIONSHIP.
- Click the Add/Edit RELATIONSHIP BUTTON (This is just like dragging one field to another, but gives you more options up front), to:
OPEN the EDIT RELATIONSHIP DIALOG BOX.
- From the LEFT table’s pop up menu, choose:
Invoice Finder_INVOICE FINDER
- From the RIGHT table’s pop up menu, choose:
Invoice Finder__INVOICES
- CONTINUE ON NEXT CARD SET
EMPTY SIDE.
