What are vaccinations
A
Involve injecting small amounts of dead or inactive pathogens, these carry antigens which causes your body to produce antibodies to attach them- even though the pathogen is harmless

Example of a vaccination
A
MMR: contains weakened versions of the viruses that cause measles, mumps and rubella all in one

What happens if the live pathogens re enter the body
A
The white blood cells can rapidly mass produce antibodies to kill the pathogen

Give 2 advantages of vaccination
A
- Helped control communicable diseases that were once common in the UK (smallpox)
- Big outbreaks of disease (epidemics) can be prevented if a large percentage of the population is vaccinated

Give 2 disadvantages of vaccines
A
- Sometimes they don’t give immunity
