White Blood Cells.
What do white blood cells produce?
They produce antitoxins which neutralizes with the toxins and poisons produced by the bacteria.
What are the two main types of pathogens?
Viruses and Bacteria.
What are pathogens?
They are micro-organisms that causes disease.
Name some viral diseases…
Measles, HIV, Salmonella.
What engulfs foreign cells and digest them?
Phagocytes
Why do white blood cells produce antibodies?
Antibodies are produced specifically for a type of antigen.
Why produce antitoxins?
These counteract toxins produced by invading bacteria.
What is used to protect us from future infections?
Vaccinations.
What does a vaccination contain?
A small amount of dead/weak/inactive pathogens.
Why do we have vaccinations?
This is so that your body is prepared to fight the outbreak of disease as the specific antibodies are created for the antigens of the disease.
What does the MMR vaccine fight against?
It is used against measles, mumps and rubella.
Do painkillers kill pathogens?
No, they only relieve symptoms.
What are antibiotics used for?
To fight against bacterial diseases.
