Cells Flashcards
What are the main two cells?
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic
What are the sub-cellular structures of an ANIMAL cell?
They have a nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria and ribosomes.
What are the sub-cellular structures of a PLANT cell?
They have a cell wall, vacuole, chloroplasts including everything else in an animal cell.
What are bacterial cells called?
Prokaryotic
What do prokaryotic cells contain?
They have a cell membrane, cytoplasm, cell wall and plasmids.
What sub-cellular structures are not found in prokaryotic cells?
They don’t have chloroplasts or mitochondria. They do not have a ‘true’ nucleus either.
What is the purpose of ribosomes?
For protein synthesis.
What happens in the mitochondria?
This is where respiration takes place.
It contains genetic material that controls the activity of the cell.
Nucleus.
What is the job of cytoplasm?
It is a gel-like substance where chemical reactions take place.
What does the cell wall do?
A cell wall is made out of cellulose which supports and strengthens the cell.
It contains a chlorophyll which absorb light for photosynthesis.
Chloroplast.
