Fieldwork Flashcards
mean
average where all the values are divided by the amount of values
median
average where it is the middle value
mode
average where it is the most common value
range
average where its the highest value take the smallest
interquartile range
the middle 50% of the data
primary data
data collected ourselves
secondary data
data someone else has collected
qualitative data
data using words - descriptive
quantitative data
data using numbers - numerical
raw data
data that hasn’t been processed for use
random sampling
members of the population have equal chances of being selected
stratified sampling
made up of different subgroups of the population e.g: age groups and the sampling size for each subgroup is proportional
systematic sampling
members from a larger population are selected according to a fixed interval
continuous data
can be measured on a scale and can always be measured more accurately
annotated photographs
photos that have been labelled with key information explaining what t shows
field sketch
a drawing taken overlooking an area that records key details
choropleth map
a map that uses different tones or shades of colour to indicate areas with different levels of what you are measuring usually a place
bar chart
a graph that has bars to show the different levels of the independent variable against grouped data
tally chart
a table that shows the values for different categories which could be descriptive
pie chart
a graph that shows the proportion of what you are measuring can be descriptive or numerical
scatter graph
a graph that shows continuous data about what you are measuring and has individual points with a line of best fit
radar graph
a graph that shows numerical data about multiple different categories and can compare two different locations or data sets
line graph
a graph that tracks differences over a period of time
hazard
a danger of risk
