-Livestock Market: It was known as a market town but the market was closed in 2008 and moved to Sedgemoor.

Q

What are the issues in Taunton?

A

-Employment: low employment rate with many residents living off low wages. There are limited options in the area, especially for the younger population. It has an aging demographic, the average age of residents is 41. Many of the young people are moving away for further education and jobs.
-Infrastructure: Severe traffic congestion and unsuitable roads to deal with them. There can be severe congestion around the M5 junction 25 and the A38/A358. As a result the local council built a road around the town centre- the northern inner distributor road - which opened in 2017.
