Fibula Flashcards
Where is the fibula in relation to the tibia?
Lateral
What bones does the fibula articulate with ad at which aspects?
Tibia (facet of head and facet of lateral malleolus) ; talus (talar facet)
Detail the apex of the fibula
The styloid process is distal, lateral and posterior
What attaches at the head of the fibula?
Fibular collateral ligament and biceps femoris
What is the sharpest aspect of the fibula?
Interosseous crest/border - twists as it comes down
How does the fibula articulate with the tibia?
Articular facet for tibia (triangular bumpy aspect); talar facet (smooth bit on other side from lateral malleulus); interosseous ligament
Name and describe the notch on the fibula
Fibular groove / malleolar sulcus - posterior on distal end
Name the feature of the fibula used for siding and it’s function
Malleolar fossa, sits posterior for the posterior talofibular ligament
How do you side the fibula?
Make sure the malleolar fossa is inferior, and on the side closest to your body, make sure your thumb fits into the fossa and whichever thumb fits is the side the bone is from
