Fibrous connective tissue Flashcards
3 types of connective tissue
adult, embryonic, special
fibrous connective tissue can be divided into three types…which are?
loose CT, dense regular CT, dense irregular CT
embryonic CT has what kind of cells?
pluripotent stem cells
what do fibroblasts make?
proteoglycans, collagen, glycoproteins, elastin, reticular fibers (all of these are in ECM)
CT cell types?
hematopoietic SCs, adipocytes, chondrocytes, osteocytes, fibroblasts, mesenchymal cells
elastin can be found primarily in what places?
walls of arteries, lungs, ligamentum nuchae
3 types of elastin: fibrullin 1, fibrullin 1/2, tropoelastin
reticular fibers function, found where?
supportive meshwork found in bone marrow, spleen
what type of collagen is common in ECMs?
1
what is the ECM of CT?
amorphous ground substance (gelatinous, fills space)
what does the amorphous ground substance consist of?
proteoglycans (have sulfates - provide cushioning function), hyaluronan (links proteoglycans), glycoproteins (growth factors like TGF-B, EGF), extracellular proenzymes
key characteristics of embryonic CT?
lots of ECM, lots of mesenchymal stem cells (multipotent), referred to as wharton’s jelly in umbilical cord
loose connective tissue has what cell types in it?
areolar, adipose, retinacular
what is areolar?
some fixed cells (fibroblasts, adipocytes, mesenchymal cells), some wandering (macrophages, mast cells, WBCs, plasma cells)
characteristic of dense CT?
lots of collagen (so lots of fibroblasts)
dense irregular CT example
dermis
